Data Security|India faces privacy risks through old Devices|Cyberfraud


According to new report privacy risks are more high while disposing off our old storage devices.In india Seven out of each 10 peoples are defenseless against information rupture.


The remaining information can accommodatingly fall into the wrong hands, and can lead to personal security threats,user privacy issues,identity thefts and financial frauds,cautioned the report by Gurugram-headquart information data care master Stellar Information Technology Pvt. Ltd.

Stellar's laboratory examined more than 300 used devices, including hard drives, memory cards and mobile phones.


The gadgets examined in the study were obtained from individuals,online entryways and  resellers in many places.

Analysis of the world's largest study on residual data in second-hand devices revealed that 71% of these devices included personal data, personal identifying (PII) and sensitive business information.

The "Stellar Second-Hand Electronic Device" study says that business data can be vulnerable to data stolen and misuse of important information such as financial reports, trade agreements, intellectual property, business intelligence and trade secrets.

"Due to lack of awareness among clients on a large scale, the risk of cyber crime can be increased. It also underlines the rapid importance of adopting data cleanliness processes by individuals and organisations as a safeguard at time of disposal of old IT assets," Manoj Dhingra,Co-founder and Director, Domestic Business, Stellar,said in an announcement.

Dhingra said, Personal Data Protection Bill 2018, when approved as a law, can be speeded up by the consumers and organizations for the development of safe ecosystem for higher awareness and risk mitigation activities.

The key factor of this study that when selling old storage devices please remove your personal information as well as other sensitive information using safe data wipe method.
